Nor'easters take Shutesbury power out for days, not hours. A standby generator starts on its own, carries the circuits that matter, and shuts down when the utility returns. OSB sizes, sets and wires the whole system.
“Two-prong outlets all through a 1920s house. They grounded what could be grounded and GFCI-protected the rest, then labelled everything.”
“Every smart switch I bought failed because there was no neutral. They pulled neutrals in the rooms that needed it and set up the rest properly.”
“Our panel was original to the house and completely full. OSB upgraded us to 200 amp, pulled the permit, met the inspector, and left the basement cleaner than they found it.”
It depends on whether you want essential circuits or the whole house. A typical Shutesbury single-family runs well on 18-24kW for whole-house coverage; essentials-only systems can be half that.
Usually one to two days of electrical work once the pad is set and the fuel line is run.
